While Spotify is available across a wide range of devices, including Alexa devices, Apple Podcasts is more limited, but it's still available on the web, Apple devices, and now, Alexa devices.

Here’s how to do it.

What Play Button Does

Spotify’s Play Button is like a mini player; simply click to start streaming Spotify content anywhere online. Play Button transfers Spotify content – albums, tracks, artists, playlists, and now podcasts, too – to your website or social page, making it easy for anyone already logged into Spotify to start listening immediately. If they’re not logged in, Play Button will play a 30-second preview, then prompt the user to log in or sign up.

How to Add Play Button

Right-click any song, album, artist, playlist or podcast in the Spotify app and select “Share.” Click on “Copy Link” or “Copy Spotify URI” to copy the Spotify Link or URI. (Or use a shortcut and embed the code directly from the desktop app’s “Copy Embed Code.”)

  • Paste into the Play Buttongenerator.
  • Copy and paste the embed code into your website.
  • And voila!

If space is limited, you can embed the compact version (just toggle to “compact” and adjust the size at the bottom of the generator page).

How to Use Play Button

Just hit play! Play Button streams and navigates just like the Spotify app you already know and love, just in a different setting. It will also pick a background color based on the album or podcast cover art, which we think is a pretty cool trick.

You’re here because you can’t link your Spotify account to Alexa (Echo device). This applies to users who’re outside of the United States or where Amazon doesn’t have an official presence.
Today we will run through how to link your Spotify account to Alexa.

***Attention*** The 2019 update for this article is here.

Note: To link Spotify to Alexa you must have a Spotify Premium account.

Problem

In the Alexa app, go to Menu button > Settings > Music & Media > ‘CHOOSE DEFAULT MUSIC SERVICES’.
What you will likely see is that the Spotify option is greyed out.

Solution

Step 1
i. Go to the Amazon website and log into your account.
ii. Click on your account and select ‘Content and Devices’.

Step 2
i. Click on the ‘Preference’ tab and expand Country/Region Settings. For this example you will see that it is set to Malaysia where I’m located.

Step 3
i. Change the location to United States. Which means you have to enter a US address. Don’t worry as this address won’t interfere with your delivery address nor the location that you set in the Alexa app.

Step 4
i. Next clear all the apps from the multi-tasker on your phone.
ii. Launch the Alexa app again and go to the music settings. You should see the list like below.

Step 5
i. Tap on ‘Link account on Spotify.com’. This will bring you to the Spotify page.
ii. Enter your Spotify username and password.

Step 6
i. After logging in successfully there will be a prompt to connect Alexa to your Spotify account. ii.Tap on ‘Okay’.

Step 7
i. Congratulations, you’re almost done!
ii. Go back to the Music settings and select Spotify as the default music library.
iii. Then go to your Echo device and test it. Say something like “Alexa, play songs by John Mayer on Spotify”.

And there we have it. Now go and enjoy hands-free Spotify control!
